Choosing the right irrigation system is one of the most important investments for any farm. The right system can double your yield, while the wrong choice can cost thousands in lost crops. This guide covers all key factors.
Step 1: Determine Plot Size
Small Plot (up to 1 ha)
Simple portable system with 50mm or 70mm pipes. One worker can set up in a few hours. Investment: EUR 500-1,500 complete.
Medium Plot (1-10 ha)
90mm main line with 50mm or 70mm laterals. Our most common delivery configuration. Investment: EUR 1,500-5,000.
Large Plot (10-50 ha)
110mm or 125mm main line with 70mm or 90mm laterals. Use valve branches for zone control. Investment: EUR 5,000-15,000.
Industrial (50+ ha)
150mm main line, 110mm/125mm distribution. IRRIGO 150mm pipes delivered to two large industrial enterprises in Serbia. Investment: EUR 15,000+.
Step 2: Analyze Your Water Source
Key factors: distance from source to farthest point, elevation profile, pump capacity (liters/minute), available pressure (bar). Rule of thumb: larger diameter = less pressure loss. For distances over 200 meters, use 90mm or larger as the main line.
Step 3: Match to Crop Type
Vegetables
Frequent, lighter watering. Use 50mm or 70mm with close-spaced sprinklers (9-12m).
Field Crops
Heavier, less frequent irrigation. 90mm main with 50/70mm laterals, wider sprinkler spacing (15-18m).
Orchards
IRRIGO pipes as supply lines to drip systems.
