Bauer, Perrot, or Humet Couplings - Which Type for Your Irrigation System?

IRRIGO Blog - Bauer, Perrot, or Humet Couplings - Which Type for Your Irrigation System?

Three dominant coupling types exist in irrigation: Bauer (Austrian origin), Perrot (German origin), and Humet (Spanish origin). Understanding the differences is key to proper selection and system compatibility.

Bauer System

Most widespread in Europe. Quick-connect mechanism with collar tightening.

  • Fast assembly and disassembly.
  • Reliable hermetic seal.
  • Wide diameter range.

Dominant in Austria, Germany, and Central Europe. IRRIGO couplings are Bauer-compatible.

Perrot System

Uses a specific key-lock mechanism.

  • Extremely secure connection, resistant to accidental opening.
  • Very durable.
  • Slightly slower assembly, some models require specific tools.

Popular in Germany and Scandinavia. Our fittings are designed for Perrot compatibility.

Humet System

Uses lever mechanism for quick connection.

  • Fastest assembly of all three systems.
  • Intuitive mechanism.
  • One-hand operation.

Dominant in Spain, Portugal, and North Africa.

IRRIGO Compatibility

IRRIGO pipes are designed for maximum compatibility with all major coupling types. Our standard diameters (50mm to 150mm) match international standards. When ordering, specify your coupling type and we'll deliver compatible fittings.

For new systems, we recommend IRRIGO's own couplings combining the best features of all three systems: Humet's speed, Bauer's reliability, and Perrot's security. For existing systems, we supply compatible fittings that connect directly to your existing pipework.
